2010 New Releases

We are pleased to offer to our friends and supporters our two new 2010 wines.

Firstly the Poverty Bay Rose 2010, the third vintage of our Rose and dare we say even better than the 2009?

As you may be aware Michael Cooper gave the 2009 Five Stars, so we hope he will find the 2010 to his liking!

A blend of 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc, the latest Rose is delightfully fresh with good depth and fruit on the mid-palate.

Our other new release wine is the Poverty Bay Semillon 2010, a deliciously lean minerally white wine made from 100 per cent Semillon. Ideal with seafood and especially shellfish, this is styled along the liens of the famous Bordeaux region 'Graves' white wines.

The Old Vines Semillon spent three months in mature French barriques for fermentation and is a wine of distinctive character. As with all Semillons it will age for years and will reward cellaring, but is a delicious aperitif wine if drunk now.


We have coined the phrase 'Gisbordeaux' to describe our unique little Bordeaux vineyard in Riverpoint Road Matawhero, Gisborne, and the rich red wines which it produces.

Our flagship wine the 'blue label' Bridge Estate 2009 will be bottled in the coming weeks, and the final barrel samples confirm our view that this wine will be exquisite. En Primeur buyers have already secured their orders but we are able to accept further orders for delivery by mid January.

Meanwhile our Poverty Bay Merlot Cabernets 2008 continues to turn heads.

Drinking beautifully at present, the wine has recently been accepted for the wine list at the newly refurbished and expanded Euro on Auckland's Princes Wharf, dubbed 'Super Euro' by those who have visited this world class palace of gastronomy and wine.

With the Poverty Bay Rose listed at Soul Bar and Bistro in the Viaduct,, that gives us the 'quinella' on the two best restaurants on the Auckland waterfront.

Michael Cooper has this to say about the Poverty Bay Merlot Cabernets 2008, when awarding it Four Stars (Silver Medal equivalent) in his new 'Michael Coopers Buyers Guide to New Zealand Wines 2011: "Its a wine of strong personality - full-coloured, ripe brambly and spicy with good concentration and hints of leather and chocolate. Already enjoyable and worth cellaring, its an excellent debut". He also rates the wine a V+ or "Above Average Value"
